Notikumi tik ātri attīstās, ka mums pēdējā mirklī nācās pārkārtot šīs nedēļas laikrakstu, un vairāki sagatavoti materiāli pārcēlās uz nākamo numuru.
Atkal upuri Afganistānā. Misija tur ir ar lielu bīstamību, bet, ja mēs pretendējam uz pilnvērtīgu NATO locekles statusu, tad mums arī jāuzņemas attiecīgie riski. Nevar atdalīt mūsu piedalīšanos kopīgos NATO spēkos no tā, ka mēs sagaidām, ka citas NATO locekles uzņemsies risku mūsu labā.
Pagājušās nedēļas laikrakstā mēs sūdzējāmies par dažu latviešu politiķu un Rīgas Pieminekļu padomes labprātīgo izdabāšanu mūsu zemes okupantiem, atļaujot atjaunot vēstures falsifikāciju – pateicību Padomju armijai par Latvijas „atbrīvošanu“. Šonedēļ publicējam atklātu vēstuli Latvijas prezidentam, premjeram, Saeimas priekšsēdētājam un Rīgas mēram, kurā daudzi Latvijā un ārzemēs pazīstami cilvēki sūdzas par šo pašu nelietību.
Atklātu vēstuli mums arī ir atsūtījusi Misiņa bibliotēkas vadība un Latvijas Zinātņu akadēmijas Senāta vadība, lai pievērstu uzmanību kļūmīgam veidam, kā paredzēts pārkārtot bibliotēkas.
Tomēr ir arī labas ziņas. Visa Latvija dzīvo līdzi Pasaules čempionātam ledus hokejā, kur Latvija ir paspējusi sasniegt ceturtdaļfinālu. Austrālijā turpinās 50 un 60 gadu jubileju svinību vilnis. Sakarā ar laikraksta „Austrālijas Latvietis“ 60 gadu jubileju, aicinājām pirmā un ilggadīgā redaktora un īpašnieka Emīla Dēliņa ģimeni pastāstīt savas atmiņas par avīzi.

Greetings to all mothers on Mothers' Day!
Events have developed so fast, that at the last moment we had to reorganise this week's newspaper, and a number of already prepared articles have been moved to next week's edition.
Again there are Latvian casualties in Afghanistan. The mission there is very dangerous, but, if we want to be full members of NATO, then we must also accept the corresponding risks. You cannot separate the participation in joint NATO forces from the expectation that other NATO members will accept risks for our good.
In last week's edition we complained about the actions of some Latvian politicians and the Riga Memorial Board in pandering to Latvia's occupiers and allowing the renewal of a falsification of history – gratitude to the Soviet army for the “liberation” of Latvia. This week we publish an open letter to the President of Latvia, the Prime Minister, the Speaker of the parliament and the mayor of Riga, where many well-known people (both in Latvia and overseas) complain about this deplorable action.
We also have an open letter from the management of the Misins Library and from the Chairman of the Senate of the Latvian Academy of Sciences drawing attention to problems with the proposed reorganisation of libraries in Latvia.
But there is also good news. All of Latvia is closely following the Ice Hockey World Championship, where Latvia has reached the quarter finals. The wave of 50th and 60th anniversary celebrations is continuing in Australia. As the newspaper “Australijas Latvietis” has reached its 60th anniversary, we have invited the family of the first and long-term editor and owner Emils Delins to recount their memories of the paper.
