Sveicināti, lasītāji!
Lieldienu laiks ir pagājis, un dzīve atgriežas ierastā ritmā. Melburnā Svētā Krusta draudzē iesvētīja četrus jauniešus, kuri, cerams būs aktīvi latviešu sabiedrībā. Man vienmēr jāapbrīno skaistais skats pāri baznīcas altārim uz lieliem kokiem. Arhitekta Ulda Merita projektētās baznīcas iekštelpas koka noformējums, un šie koki aiz loga liek domāt par Latviju.
Un kas notiek Latvijas baznīcā? Īsziņās (10. lpp.) varat lasīt par reportāžu, ka Latvijas Evanģēliski luteriskās baznīcas arhibīskaps Jānis Vanags it kā esot teicis, ka Latvijas luterāņu baznīca pievienošoties katoļu baznīcai!
Austrālijā turpinās nākamo Kultūras dienu rīkošana. Tās notiks 2010. gada decembrī. Melburnas Latviešu organizāciju apvienības (MLOA) sēde otrdienā, 14. aprīlī oficiāli apstiprināja KD Rīcības komiteju, kuras priekšsēdētāju Anitu Andersoni MLOA iecēla jau pirms gada.
Latvieši vienmēr bijuši ļoti aktīvi kultūras ziņā, un prieks redzēt latviešu ansambļu Zigrīdas Kalpi un Lāpa sekmes austrāliešu publikas priekšā. Neaizmirstiet turpināt atbalstīt ansambli Lāpa, atnākot uz Ansambļu kara finālu Pelēkā suņa krogū netālu no Melburnas Latviešu nama (skat. rakstu 1. lpp). Mazāk pieminēts ir Nacionāla Folkfestivāla dalībnieks – ansamblis Vardos, kurā gan ir tikai viena latviete, bet tā pati ir ļoti aktīva arī latviešu muzikālā dzīvē.

Dear Readers,
Easter has come and gone, and life is returning to its everyday rhythm. There was a Confirmation ceremony for four young people at the Church of the Holy Cross in Melbourne, and we hope that they will be active members of the Latvian community. I am always amazed by the beautiful view over the church altar to the large trees behind it. The wooden features of the church interior (architect Uldis Merits) and these trees make one think about Latvia.
And what is happening with the church in Latvia? In this issue we tell you about the news reports that claimed that the Archbishop of the Latvian Evangelical Lutheran Church, Janis Vanags, had said that the Latvian Lutheran Church will join the Catholic Church!
Preparations for the next Australian Latvian Cultural Festival are continuing. The festival will take place in December, 2010. The Federation of Latvian Organisations in Melbourne (MLOA) officially confirmed the appointment of the Organising Committee at its meeting on April 14. The MLOA had already appointed the Chairwoman of the Organising Committee, Anita Anderson, a year ago.
Latvians have always been culturally very active, and it is good to see the successful performances of the Latvian groups Zigridas Kalpi and Lapa in front of Australian audiences. Don't forget to continue supporting Lapa by coming to the final of the Battle of the Bands at the Greyhound Hotel near the Melbourne Latvian House (see the article on page 1). Less mention has been made of the group Vardos, another participant in the National Folkfestival in Canberra. This group only contains one Latvian, but she is musically very active in the Latvian community.
We have postponed for another week the commentary on Dr. Janis Priedkalns' lecture in Adelaide.
And finally, I have to remind you not to pass up the opportunity of seeing and hearing that Australian Latvian classic of comedy, Uldis Silins, who is performing in Sydney and Melbourne this coming weekend.
